Part 1: Read-aloud

Part 2: Discussion
Ask the students if they have ever flown a kite? Have you ever made a kite? Today you will get to make your own kite and fly it.
Part 3: Activity
- Provide each student with a sled kite template
- Show students examples of paper maps that they will be using to create a sled kite
- Have students construct a kite
- Allow students to try flying their kite using a breeze outside during recess
Part 4: Summary
Today you learned about how to make a kite and fly it. (Depending on the success of the flying, you might talk about the need for wind to fly a kite.)
